Dynamic upsell provides a precise room upsell revenue calculation based on actual reservation charges and base room nightly rate. It can replace the upsell premium model that you may already be using within Passkey, but must be enabled. It can also be used in conjunction with the existing upsell premium model. The following sections provide a general overview of how to set up Dynamic Upsell and how it works in practice.
In order to enable Dynamic Upsell for your event, make sure that the “Enable Dynamic Upsell” checkbox is checked in Event: Details: Details. This will start the automated base room definition.
To enable Dynamic Upsell for all future events that will be created, activate “Enable Dynamic Upsell” in the hotel or organization profile Defaults section.
In the hotel's attendee type library, you can predefine the base room types for Dynamic Upsell. This provides an efficient way to ensure that your events will be set up to calculate upsell in the same way.
Once Dynamic Upsell is enabled for an event, a new option called Manage Base Rooms becomes available under Inventory Tasks for each hotel on the event.
In order to correctly calculate upsell revenue using the Dynamic Upsell, each attendee type on the event should be associated with a hotel Base Room type. Base room rates give the system a way to calculate a premium rate based on the difference between upsell room reservation charge, and the base rate for the attendee.
Only rooms available for the attendee type are available in Base Room drop-down list.
The base room association defined in the hotel library will automatically be applied on the event level once a sub-block has been created. If another base room was already manually defined for an attendee type, it will remain.
The system can automatically select base room types to simplify base room setup. The system will:
Run only after the hotel on the event has its first reservation
Change only attendee types for which a base room was Let system select (an option formerly called Not Selected)
Select the first lowest average rate room type available for the attendee type, considering nights where the rate is greater than 1 unit of currency (e.g. USD)
Note: If Don't allow upsell was selected for an attendee type, no base room will be automatically selected, and this attendee type will not contribute to upsell.
Once Dynamic Upsell is enabled for an event, the system starts upsell revenue calculation based on the base room. An upsell premium for each night is calculated as a difference between the nightly rate charged for the upgrade room for the attendee, and the base room rate defined for this attendee. The upsell premium calculation updates nightly and follows these rules:
It uses the base room approach only for events where the Dynamic Upsell is enabled
It calculates an upsell premium only when the booked room is marked as an Upsell room
It uses sub-block rates as base rates
It does not include guest fees
It recalculates reservation upsell revenue when reservation charges, base rates, room upsell settings, or base room associations change
Upsell revenue can be seen on the event list (expanded view), reports and dashboards.
